| The Sorting Ceremony
Originally the pointed wizard's hat of Godric Gryffindor, the Sorting Hat was bewitched by all four of the founders of Hogwarts with brains and some amount of personality. Its function is to determine which of the four Houses each new student will enter. It does so at the beginning of the start-of-term feast, when it is placed on a three-legged (sometimes four-legged) stool in front of the Great Hall. It then sings a long, rambling song of introduction, a different one each year but with the same basic information in it: how it was bewitched to perform the sorting and what the criteria are for the various houses. The first year students one by one place the Sorting Hat on their heads. Within a minute, it loudly proclaims the house for which they are best suited.

| Potion's Classroom
Thanks to the damp and cold dungeons, the potions classroom is always cold and dark.

| Slytherin Head of House's Office
This is the office of the Slytherin Head of House. Be careful, the room may be password protected.

| Dungeon Corridor
The dungeon corridors are dimly lit, so it is quite hard to see walking through them. Make sure you watch, you don't want to run into something you don't like.

| Kitchens
The Hogwarts kitchens are located directly below the Great Hall and are just the same size. They have high ceilings and a great brick fireplace at one end. Mounds of brass pots and pans are heaped around the walls. There are preparation tables directly below the four house tables in the Hall above, and when the time comes for the food to be served, it is magically transported through the ceiling of the kitchen onto the plates. The kitchens are staffed by over a hundred house-elves. To get to the kitchens, take the door to the right of the main staircase in the entrance hall. Follow the corridor until you come to a painting of a bowl of fruit. Tickle the pear and it giggles and becomes a door handle.

| Entrance Hall
Double oak front doors, opening to the west. Large, cavernous room, lit by torches, with ceiling so high it's barely visible. Wide marble staircase opposite the front doors (east wall) leads up to first floor. Double doors to the right (south wall) lead into the Great Hall. On the east wall are two doors, one on either side of the staircase. To the north of the staircase is a door leading down a flight of steps to the first dungeon level. To the south is a door leading to the Hufflepuff common room and the kitchens. On the left (north wall) is a door leading to a smaller antechamber where First Years wait to be sorted.

| Great Hall
Vast chamber with an enchanted ceiling that mirrors the sky outside. Four long tables for the four houses. Closest to the doors from the Entrance Hall is Slytherin, then Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and next to the far wall, Gryffindor (this order may possibly be reversed, depending on how you orient the room to the entrance hall). The teachers sit at the High Table, a table on a raised platform at the front of the room.

| Broom Cupboard
The tiny closet is located right off the entrance hall, it might be big enough to fit two full grow adults if tried.

The office of the caretaker can be found behind this large door.

| First Floor Corridor
The hallways on this floor seemed to be quite narrow, compared to the others.

| Muggle Studies Classroom
This is the room that muggle studies is taught it. Magic is not really used in this class. In fact, the room is full of muggle artifacts.

| History of Magic Classroom
There is a window which is large, the glass is thick, but you can see the grounds and the gameskeeper's hut from it.

| Gryffindor Head of House's Office
The head of Gryffindor's residence is in here. Be careful, this room may be password protected.

| Second Floor |
| Moaning Myrtle's Bathroom
The bathroom's wooden cubicles are worn and ill-maintained, and even the stone sinks are chipped. Like many of Hogwarts' rooms - including the opulent prefects' bathroom - the room is candle-lit, but the candles are in holders rather than a chandelier and there are not enough of them to light the room properly.

| Defense Against the Dark Arts Classroom
This classroom faces south and has a window that you can see the quidditch pitch out of.

Be careful on this floor, there is a forbidden corridor, that if you are caught in you will be in trouble. There is also the statue of humpbacked witch with a secret passage to Hogsmeade, not everyone knows about it.

| Trophy Room
Hogwarts has a trophy room where all the old awards, trophies, statues, cups, plates, shields, and medals are kept in crystal display cases. There is also a list of all the head boys and girls. It's adjacent to a long gallery full of suits of armor.

| Charms Classroom
This is of course were charms is taught. It has a large window that overlooks the large front drive.

| Hospital Wing
The hospital wing is home to two nurses. They take care of the sick and hurt.

Muggle animals is a large room. On occasion the professor is allowed to bring in wild animals.

| Library
The Hogwarts library contains tens of thousands of books on thousands of shelves. Included in its many sections is an Invisibility Section, a section with information about dragons, and a Restricted Section at the back, set off with a rope. A signed note from a teacher is required to peruse that section of the library; it contains books of Dark Magic only used by older students studying advanced Defense Against the Dark Arts.

| Mythology Classroom
Mythology is taught in a wide variety. The room is large, cavernous-like and dimly lit.

| Prefect's Bathroom
Inside, the bathroom's walls, floor, and single sunken bathtub are all made of white marble, lit softly by a candle-filled chandelier. The rectangular tub is the size and depth of a swimming pool, and even has a diving board, but unlike an ordinary pool the tub is lined with about a hundred taps, each with a differently colored jewel set into the handle. Each tap automatically releases not only water, but bubble bath (a different kind of bubble bath for each color-coded handle). A pile of fluffy white towels are kept in one corner.

This large classroom use to be the potion's classroom before it moved to the dungeons, so the room has no windows.

The Room of Requirement is a magical room which can only be discovered by someone who is in need.

The divination classroom is very small and cramped. It has only one window that overlooks the grounds.

| Seventh Floor Corridor
There's a statue of Lachlan the Lanky on the seventh floor to the right of the top of the stairs, between the stairs and the Fat Lady's portrait. A moving tapestry of Barnabas the Barmy, depicting his foolish attempt to train trolls for the ballet, hangs on the 7th floor of Hogwarts Castle, opposite the entrance to the Room of Requirement. That stretch of corridor has a window on one end and a man-sized vase at the other.

| Towers |
| North Tower
The north tower is located right above the divination classroom.

| Astronomy Tower
This is were the astronomy class is taught. Most classes take place in the classroom, but on occasion, they will go to the top of the classroom for a night session.

| Headmaster/Headmistress' Office
The entrance to the headmaster and headmistress office at Hogwarts is behind a statue of a gargoyle on the seventh floor. When given the proper password, the gargoyle will leap aside, and the wall behind it will split in two to reveal a spiral stone staircase that moves like an escalator.

| The Owlery
The Owlery is a circular stone room, rather cold and drafty, because none of the windows had glass in them. The floor is entirely covered in straw, owl droppings, and the regurgitated skeletons of mice and voles. Hundreds upon hundreds of owls of every breed imaginable are nestled here on perches that rose right up to the top of the tower.

The large field has stands set up around it for each house and the staff. Three hoops at each end of the field.

You can see a small hut that is home to the grounds keeper, outside of it is were care of magical creatures is taught.

| The Whomping Willow
The Whomping Willow is a very valuable, very violent tree planted alone in the middle of the school grounds.

| Flying Lessons
Flying lessons can be taken by anyone in any year.

| The Black Lake
The lake is located on the south side of the Hogwarts. It is approximately a half-mile in diameter and the home to various creatures.

| The Forbidden Forest
To the east of Hogwarts castle is a large, dark forest. This forest is strictly off limits to Hogwarts students, except in the course of occasional Care of Magical Creatures lessons or detentions. The forbidden forest is sometimes referred to as the Forbidden Forest but often as just "the forest."
